Researcher

The Biomedical Imaging Institute oversees facilities at the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre, The Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (CRF), Salford Royal NHS Trust and at the University's main campus on Oxford Road.

MRI scanners

MRI imaging is undertaken using scanning equipment operated by the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Facility (MRIF - formerly the TIU) and installed at the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre and Salford Royal Hospital NHS Trust.

A 7.0T narrow bore Bruker MRI scanner is situated at the University of Manchester's main campus on Oxford Road, operated by the Imaging, Genomics and Proteomics Research Group. The Quantitative Biomedical Imaging Laboratory and the Experimental Design and Image Analysis (EDIA) Laboratory are also valuable resources for MR research.

PET scanners

Two research-dedicated PET scanners are situated in the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre. The Centre is also equipped with experimental radiochemistry facilities, (cGMP) aseptic radiochemistry production facilities, as well as extensive analytical and bioanalysis laboratories.

The Centre also operates an ambitious radiotracer development programme and has a range of these products available for PET researchers.

Related facilities

Researchers affiliated to the Biomedical Imaging Institute have access via collaboration to other imaging modalities across the University of Manchester including the Henry Moseley X-Ray Imaging Facility, as well as other local related facilities.
